ADRIAN, MICH.—Sister Mary Declan Foss, formerly known as Geraldine Foss, died on May 21 at the Dominican Life Center. She was 95 years old and in the 67th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
The Mass of Christian Burial is on May 27 at 10:30 am. followed by burial in the congregation cemetery.
Sister Mary Declan was born in Toledo, Ohio, to Carl and Eleanor Casey Foss. She graduated from St. Ursula Academy in Toledo, and received a bachelor’s degree in both biology and education from Mary Manse College in Toledo, and a Master’s of Education from DePaul University in Chicago, Ill.
In the Diocese of Charleston, Sister Mary Declan ministered in a private residence in Columbia, S.C., in 1983 as a companion to the elderly.
Sister Mary Declan spent 27 years serving in education in Adrian, New Baltimore and Anchorville, Mich.; Chicago and Loves Park, Ill.; Oakland, Calif.; Toledo and Defiance, Ohio; and Fort Wayne, Ind. She was the religious education coordinator for five years at Immaculate Conception School in Anchorville. She worked in environmental services in Weber Center in Adrian for three years, and was an assistant for five years at St. Lawrence Convent in Utica, Mich. From 1970 to 1973, she was a recreational therapist at St. Theresa Home in Cincinnati, Ohio. Sister Mary Declan became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 1993, where she volunteered her services for 12 years.
Sister Mary Declan is survived by her nieces and nephews, and members of her congregation.
