St. Francis Thrift Shop donates to 27 local charities

St. Francis thrift shop grant recipients 2016

HILTON HEAD—St. Francis Thrift Shop distributed grants to 27 charitable organizations in Hilton Head and Bluffton on June 21.

The shop is an outreach of St. Francis by the Sea Church, and its proceeds benefit the parish community and school. It is located along Highway 278 between Mathews Drive and Beach City Road.

Since it opened in 1999, St. Francis Thrift Shop has donated approximately $1 million to local non-profits by selling gently used clothing and other items at bargain prices. The store also gives free clothing and housewares to people in need.

In May 2015, the thrift shop expanded to include a large furniture gallery, which has increased sales.

Hal Wieland, the store manager, credits the success to the many hard working volunteers and the local community, which donates the items for sale.
