Scouts grow closer to God while earning emblems

COLUMBIA—Scouts from around the Diocese of Charleston were honored for months of work and dedication at the annual Catholic Scout Convocation held Feb. 5 at St. Joseph Church in Columbia.

The event recognizes those who earned religious emblems during the previous year. Each emblem requires Scouts to learn more about the Church and their relationship with God, and complete a variety of activities related to faith.

Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, members of Venture crews and American Heritage Girls were all honored.

Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone led the ceremony and delivered the homily. Adam Rogers, a Boy Scout from St. Mary Church in Greenville, offered a reflection about his experiences in Scouting.

Eight Boy Scouts received the Pope Pius XII emblem, 26 Scouts earned the Ad Altare Dei emblem, and four girls received the Mary, the First Disciple emblem. Five adults received the Bronze Pelican and one received the St. George Emblem.
