ADRIAN, MICH.—Sister Mary Ann Dardy, OP, formerly Sister John Marguerite, died on April 21 at the Dominican Life Center. She was 72 and in the 54th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
The memorial Mass was held April 24 in St. Catherine Chapel. Burial was in the congregation cemetery.
Sister Mary Ann was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Henry and Mary Margaret Dardy. She graduated from Hoban Dominican High School in Cleveland; received a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Barry College in Miami Shores, Fla.; and a master’s of social work from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C.
Sister Mary Ann spent 12 years in elementary education. She worked for two years at St. Joseph Church in Columbia, S.C., as a religious education coordinator and liturgist. She also served for 36 years in various social service positions in Columbia and Rock Hill, S.C. She was a medical case worker and patient representative at Richland Memorial Hospital, a social services director, a case manager and in children’s rehabilitative services at the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control, a counselor at Children’s Rehabilitation Services, a social worker at Palmetto Home Health, and a clinical team leader at Clear Vision Communication Services, and others.
In 2014, Sister Mary Ann was elected to serve Holy Rosary Chapter of the Adrian Dominican Sisters as chapter prioress, but was unable to fulfill her position due to illness.
Sister Mary Ann is survived by a brother, Anthony Dardy, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and her community.
