WINNSBORO—St. Theresa Church will hold a special Mass to celebrate its 50th anniversary on June 2 at 6 p.m., with Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone and Msgr. James LeBlanc. Mass will be followed by a reception in the parish hall.
Nancy Watkins, an original member of St. Theresa, said the church building was constructed in 1968, but the parish was founded and has been a presence in the Columbia deanery for over 150 years. Before the church was built, Mass was celebrated over a drugstore, a funeral home, and in various homes over the years.
Bishop Francis F. Reh helped locate property for the church, Watkins said, and Bishop Ernest L. Unterkoefler dedicated and blessed the church when construction was complete.
Anyone interested in attending the reception following Mass may call 803-736-7801 to RSVP by May 18.
The location of St. Theresa’s Mass was incorrectly listed in the May 10 edition of The Miscellany. It is St. Theresa in Winnsboro, not St. Theresa the Little Flower in Summerville.
