ADRIAN, Mich.—Adrian Dominican Sister Elizabeth Condon, formerly known as Sister Martha Marie Condon, died on Nov. 18, 2018, at the Dominican Life Center. She was 93.
The Mass of Christian Burial was held in St. Catherine Chapel on Nov. 21 with burial in the congregation cemetery.
Sister Elizabeth was born in Charleston, S.C., to Matthew and Martha (Igoe) Condon. She graduated from Bishop England High School in Charleston and received a bachelor’s degree from Barry College (University) in Miami, Fla., and a master’s from Catholic University in Washington, D.C.
She spent over 20 years serving in education in Fort Pierce, Hollywood, Jacksonville, and St. Petersburg, Fla.
In the Diocese of Charleston, S.C., Sister Elizabeth served as principal of St. Mary Help of Christians School in Aiken from 1961-67.
From1976-79, she was co-provincial for the St. Rose of Lima Province in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Sister Elizabeth also worked for 22 years in parish ministry, on retreat teams, as a chaplain, and as a spiritual director in Kingstree, Columbia, and Charleston, S.C., plus in Kisumu, Kenya. She also served for 11 years at Sea of Peace House of Prayer in Edisto, S.C., which she co-founded and co-directed.
She became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in 2006 and continued to minister as a spiritual director for several years.
She was in the 71st year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sister Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary Clare McElwee and Martha Condon; and two brothers, James Condon and Matthew Condon. She is survived by loving nieces and nephews and her Adrian Dominican Sisters.
