Bishop revises date to release the names of priests credibly accused of sexual abuse

CHARLESTON, S.C.—Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone has revised the date that the Catholic Diocese of Charleston will release the names of priests credibly accused of sexual abuse of minors in the diocese dating back to 1950. The names will now be made public by the end of March.

Bishop Guglielmone said the delay is due to the amount of time it is taking to complete the ongoing review of the priest personnel records.

“We are committed to a thorough file review of our priest personnel files from 2007 through today,” the bishop said.

The diocese had previously reviewed its files dating back to 1950 in connection with its 2007 Class Action Settlement.

“When we release the list of names, we want it to be accurate to the best of our knowledge. We owe that to the victims, the faithful and the public,” Bishop Guglielmone said.
