CONWAY—Workers and volunteers with the Catholic Charities Pee Dee office made St. Nicholas proud during the Christmas season.
Through a lot of planning and community support, the outreach hosted its own toy store and provided gifts for 659 children on Dec. 19 at the Myrtle Beach Education Center at Coastal Carolina University, said Kelly Kaminski, regional coordinator.
Parents registered ahead of time for the event and then wandered through rooms filled with toys for all ages, from bikes to balls, Barbies and so much more. Parents selected three gifts for each child, plus three board games and a variety of other items, including T-shirts and bracelets, puzzles, stuffed animals, books, coloring books, and stocking stuffers.
While parents shopped, children hung out in the Reindeer Room, where they watched “Rudolph”, made crafts and played games.
Gifts were provided for children aged 18 and younger. Flyers for the Christmas shop were sent to area schools and to families that attended Back-to-School assistance through Catholic Charities.
