During the ceremony, awards were presented to Douglas Kelley as Police Officer of the Year and Chris Vanhoy, deputy fire chief, as Firefighter of the Year. Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone, Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg, Fire Chief Daniel Curia, Police Chief Luther Reynolds, and Father Gabriel Smith, pastor of St. Joseph, attended to pay tribute to the two men and all police officers and firefighters.
