The Miscellany wins seven Catholic press awards

BUFFALO, NEW YORK—The Diocese of Charleston’s biweekly newspaper received seven awards during the annual Catholic Media Convention held June 24-26.

The Catholic Miscellany received the following honors in the newspaper category. First, second and third place for best use of art or graphics went to Caroline Lindsey, page designer, for “7 deadly sins”, “Catechists play an important role in passing down the faith”, and “An extraordinary ministry”, respectively.

Staff writer Christina Lee Knauss received second place for best reporting on a special age group: senior citizens, for “Computer classes can open eyes and doors for seniors”. She received third place for best coverage of a routine, sacramental event for “An extraordinary ministry” while Amy Wise Taylor, staff writer and copy editor, received an honorable mention in that category for “Your annulment questions answered”.

Deirdre C. Mays, editor, received second place for best photograph: best photo illustration for “‘Each of us is a masterpiece of God’s creation’”, Respect Life Month cover.

About 300 people attended this year’s convention in Buffalo, which is sponsored by the Catholic Press Association and the Catholic Academy of Communication Arts Professionals.
