GREENVILLE—On April 21, Charlie Beyer, a World War II combat veteran, was honored along with 120 other Upstate WWII and Korean War veterans, on a full day Honor Flight trip to Washington, D.C.
Knights of Columbus Council 10819 sponsored Beyer, who is a member of the council and a longtime member of St. Mary Magdalene Church. His escort was John Macioce, a brother Knight and U.S. Navy veteran.
In one day, the veterans traveled to Washington, D.C., on a chartered plane and were escorted by police motorcade on a tour bus to all the war memorials. They had a special lunch and ceremony, and returned home that night to a reception of over 700 cheering family, friends, supporters and military dignitaries. The Hampton Park Christian High School band played patriotic music.
