CHARLESTON—St. Patrick parish celebrated marriage for its members during a Mass on Sept. 25.
Father Henry Kulah, pastor, blessed the couples who had received the sacrament of marriage and continue to live their vows to each other. The couples also re-affirmed those vows.
During Mass, Father Kulah said it is important to recognize these men and women for their commitment to God and to one another. St. Patrick Church’s pastoral council’s faith formation committee sponsored the event with two perspectives in mind.
The first was to identify married couples who model their lives and honor the sacrament of marriage according to the church’s mission statement: “St. Patrick Catholic Church is a faith-filled community that is forever growing in a relationship with Christ. We celebrate the presence of Christ in Word and Sacrament, demonstrate love and concern for all parishioners, teach by example, and strive to serve the needs of all in the community.”
The second perspective focused on Pope Francis’ message regarding the sacrament. The pope said the sacrament of marriage is the icon of God’s love for humanity and married life is beautiful and must be protected.
Couples who pre-registered for the Mass totaled over 1,280 years of marriage.
